Gale Brewer, Civic Honoree
We are very pleased to recognize Gale A. Brewer as our Civic Honoree for her longstanding support of young people that Mouse serves across New York City as Manhattan Borough President and in her previous role as City Council Member.
Gale has been a ceaseless champion for all students in our city, with a particular focus on equitable access to the latest technologies and on expanded mastery within the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) disciplines. Her dedication to these two elements are especially meaningful to Mouse, as the majority of our youth represent diverse ethnicities and more than one third are young women.
Gale has been a steadfast supporter to Mouse for more than 15 years. She has attended several events at NYC public schools honoring our students and educators. Gale has also been a strong voice on policy issues directly impacting our youth, including access to high-speed Internet connection in the communities we serve.
Gale is the 27th Borough President of Manhattan, with a role in deciding land-use and zoning issues in the borough, appointment of members to the 12 community boards, and the ability to introduce legislation in the City Council. She previously served on the Council for 12 years, including as Chair of the Technology Committee.
Gale earned an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and did her undergraduate work at Columbia University and Bennington College.
