Maker Day Was a Hit this Spring!
On Saturday April 1st, over 40 makers of all ages came to Mouse HQ to take part in the third ever Mouse Maker Day Celebration! Maker Day is the big sister to Mouse Maker Nights and this one featured more things to make than ever before.
Attendees had their choice of cool projects, including:
- Building Virtual Reality headsets
- Creating custom video game controllers with the Makey Makey
- 3D Design
- LED Crafting
- Turbine Building (from our Green Tech course!)
- Light-up phone cases made with sewable circuits
- Remixing JavaScript Chatbots
- Exploring 3D worlds in Unity
- Playing old-school games on an original Commodore 64 computer!
Volunteers came from places like Ms Tech, SHoP Architects and Teachers College help lead awesome activities. We even had a play test area where professional makers brought their tech projects that let us play games in development and practice electronic music making. Thanks Nigel and Alexis for bringing your projects to test!
We also raffled off three $20 Visa gift cards to attendees who made something during the day.
Bummed to have missed the raffle? You’re in luck! We’re starting a monthly competition as well. For a chance to win your own Visa gift card, all you have to do is make something in the spirit of Maker Day and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #mousemakes. If you don’t have a social media account, try asking a teacher to post it to your school’s account or email maggie@mouse.org. Post anytime before our next Maker Night on May 4th to submit. Thank you to everyone who showed up to create and collaborate with us! See you next time!
