Symantec and Ellis L. Phillips Foundation Award Grants to Mouse

We are thrilled to announce receiving new grants from Symantec and the Ellis L. Phillips Foundation. This year, Symantec has continued their investment in Mouse with a $30,000 grant. The Ellis L. Phillips Foundation, a new Mouse supporter, has awarded $15,000 to support our Design League students in NYC.

In 2015, Symantec supported the development of new Mouse content that centered around privacy and security for youth on the web. These new lessons and projects were piloted in six schools across New York City. In these schools, privacy and security activities sparked in-depth conversations tied to students’ experiences online. When studying security topics such as terms of service, a Mouse Coordinator noted, “kids had an idea about what they are already sharing online, but this activity had them re-evaluate what those things are and decide whether or not it was worth it.”

Funding from this year’s grant will support the expansion of this content to schools through Mouse California and other regional partners.

The Ellis L. Phillips Foundation grant will support our Mouse Design League program. A new partner to Mouse, The Ellis L Phillips Foundation is a small family foundation “that provides strategic investments in projects that serve as catalysts for the greater good.”

Funding from this grant will support Mouse Design League, a youth design and technology program through which high school students learn about human-centered design and work with professional mentors to create technologies that address a social need.

We are incredibly thankful for $45,000 in funding from Symantec and the Ellis L. Phillips Foundation. These generous grants will expand to our offerings to youth across the country, giving more students the opportunity to use technology as a force for good.
