What were some of your experiences being involved with Mouse?
Leroy was passionate about technology since he was very young. During middle school, he and his twin brother joined Mouse and helped support technology in their school. “I remember helping my English teacher with her laptop and feeling extremely proud of having helped someone.”
In high school, Leroy joined Mouse Design League, through which he had the opportunity to design projects to help others in their community. Leroy chose to develop an equipment inventory system that could be used by his school, and all NYC public schools, to track their technology inventory.
Leroy was asked to present his project at ISTE, the leading national education technology conference. “Presenting this project helped me to see the impact of what I was doing and a direction for what I might want to do in the future.”
What professional experiences did you have through Mouse?
Mouse helped Leroy to intern with UBS and Citi. “Through Mouse, I developed confidence and learned how to interview and speak professionally. At that time, no one in my grade knew what a resume was. I was one of the first to have these experiences and a well thought out resume to share.”
“My internship at Citi was a life changing experience for me. It helped me to realize what I love to do -- and when you like what you are doing, you will be at your best."
How did your experiences with Mouse impact your studies in college?
Leroy attended Ithaca College in Fall 2010 and was accepted into the Martin Luther King Scholarship Program that emphasizes citizenship and service in the global community.
“I chose to major in Computer Science because I wanted to create. I wanted to be the next Bill Gates, the next Mark Zuckerberg, the next best at creating something. Mouse helped inspire my desire to create and use technology to make a difference."
What have you done since graduating college?
Leroy was offered a position at New York Life as a Corporate Financial Consultant, where he was responsible for maintaining, supporting and testing their SAP Finance application. “The internships I had through Mouse really helped me to get this job, especially my experience at Citi in both finance and technology.”
What’s next?
Leroy plans to pursue his masters degree in Information Systems in the fall. “Information Systems is a melody of computer science and business IT. I want to work with people and use technology to solve business issues. You can do lots of things with technology, but when you create with purpose, you can make a difference by helping others."
