Congratulations to Games for Change 2020 Winners
The 2020 G4C Student Challenge program and competition was the most successful to date, with a record 1,600 middle/high school students submitting nearly 1,000 original games related to this year’s social impact themes.
Through a rigorous, 3-round jury process involving professional game designers, theme experts and games industry professionals, we have identified 124 student finalist games, which are currently available to play in the first-ever G4C Student Arcade.
On June 17th, G4C has revealed the winning games, recognized distinguished cohort educators and celebrated the accomplishments of this year’s program during the 5th annual G4C Student Challenge Awards Ceremony. This virtual event was hosted by G4C President, Susanna Pollack, and live streamed on YouTube Live on Wednesday, June 17th @ 5:00pm EST.

What is the G4C Student Challenge?
Games for Change first piloted a game design competition for young people to create games about serious issues in New York City in 2015, and since then it has grown to include four cities from coast to coast. In 2016 Mouse partnered with the G4C Student Challenge becoming the official curriculum provider, providing educator support in the form of our Impact Game Design Course.
Each year, G4C works with theme partners to develop prompts for student games and provide multimedia content for students to use to inform their games. This year, G4C worked with four distinguished organizations around four pressing issues for teens today:
- A Clean & Happy Earth (supported by the Truth Initiative): Games that teach players how cigarettes and vaping are contributing to earth’s mounting toxic litter problem.
- Inclusive Play: Designing Games for All (supported by AT&T): Games that are designed for accessibility and a broad range of user needs, fostering inclusivity in the gaming community.
- Get the Party Started (supported by iCivics): Games that examine party politics and imagine the impact of a third party on the 2020 presidential election.
- The Human-Animal Bond (supported by Annenberg PetSpace): Games that explore the importance of the human-animal bond and how both humans and animals benefit from the relationship.
