2017 D.I.Y. Mouse MicroProject Winners

Hope your summer has been refreshing and relaxing! Before school let out, we asked you all to create a tutorial for others on how to do something that you’ve already learned. Each year our staff receives submissions that showcase the many skills and talents that Mouse learners possess, and this year was no different. We were blown away by the wide range of topics covered and the crisp video and slideshow presentations. Thank you all for your amazingly informative D.I.Y. tutorials!

Grand Prize

Our annual D.I.Y MicroProject is a special event that’s very near and dear to our hearts. We prioritize making our projects just as fun as they are educational, so we greatly enjoy seeing your submissions and how you each choose to explain how to practice a particular skill. Winning the Grand Prize, and a special $100 Gift Certificate to boot, is "DIY Scratch Rhythm Game" by Richie P. at Rogers Middle School in Long Beach, California! Open this project, and it won’t take you long to see why it earned top prize. This detailed tutorial on making a game in Scratch has pictures of the many steps in the creation process to make the instructions clear and it’s spotlessly well written. There are even suggestions at the very end on next steps for those who want to improve their new game beyond the tutorial. Terrific work, Richie P.!

1st Runner Up

Our 1st Runner up receiving a $50 Gift Certificate is I came up with a new $1 SLIME by tinybelle02 at South Canton Scholars Charter Academy in Canton, Michigan. This entry was clear in its instructions and materials used, well edited, and it’s in a helpful video format which makes it especially effective at teaching you how to make your own slime! Awesome job, tinybelle02!

2nd Runner Up

Our 2nd Runner up, also winning a $50 Gift Certificate is How to wrap a present by Jackie H. from Orinda Intermediate School in Orinda, California. Not every tutorial has to cover a complicated skill. Sometimes we can use some guidance on simpler activities and this submission excels at just that. Jackie H’s video goes through each of the steps carefully with voiceover narration of the project that’s easy to follow. We also loved the 3D printed pokemon wrapped up as the gift! Congrats, Jackie H!

Honorable Mentions

Different Parts of a Computer by Theo K. is great viewing for anyone interested in computer maintenance.

How To Survive A Night In Minecraft by Kamina Sent Mail would feel right at home on a Twitch gaming stream.

Thanks again for your wonderful submissions. Check back first thing in September for details on the newest MicroProject, with more chances to win prizes and bragging rights for your school.
