May 1: Project Submission Opens
Projects must be submitted by an adult educator or parent. Project presentations can be a mix of slides, links, images, text, and videos that explain your idea and your design process. Sign up here to get email reminders and information on when the project fair opens!
What types of projects can be submitted?
- All types of digital media and/or technology projects are welcome!
Apps, websites, games, videos, podcasts, coding/CS, 3D/VR/AR, art, music, animation, digital social change campaigns, etc
Projects must be original ideas created by middle or high school students in NYC.
Projects can be in any stage of development - from basic sketches to fully working prototypes – it is all about your idea and its potential impact, not about how technical or “finished” it is.
May 17: Project Submission Deadline
You must complete the project submission form before midnight of May 17.
May 22-June 2: Emoti-Con Virtual Project Fair (12 days!)
During the virtual Project Fair, community members and judges will evaluate your submissions and leave feedback on your project page. Students can check out the projects from other teams around the city and leave encouraging feedback and emojis.
June 9: Winners Announced!
We’ll announce the Finalists and the winners at noon on Friday, June 9. Organize a watch party with your team to celebrate! (Check out last year's winners here.)
June 13: In Person Networking Event and Celebration!
This year we are having an in-person celebration and networking event that will bring together students and professionals from across the tech, media and design industry - available for a limited number of participants.
When: Tuesday, June 13th, 9am-12pm EST
Where: Microsoft HQ, Times Square NYC

What is Emoti-Con?
The Emoti-Con NYC Youth Digital Media and Technology Challenge is an annual competition and celebration for middle and high school students from NYC who believe in innovation for social change.
The event has been developed through a unique collaboration between youth designers, alumni leaders, and NYC youth-serving organizations from The Hive NYC, including Mouse, Code Nation, Global Kids, and more. Emoti-Con provides the much needed venue for young people to connect through their common identity as media producers and technologists, and to meet judges who have relevant career and academic pathways to share.
