NYC Council Speaker and Members Support STEM Learning in NYC!
We are thrilled to announce that NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the New York City Council have awarded Mouse $319,000 for the upcoming school year! Additionally, three Council Members have recently given an additional $44,115 funding to Mouse through the Digital Inclusion and Literacy Initiative developed by Council Member James Vaca.
This funding will support expanding Mouse to more public school students across the city, bringing exciting opportunities for youth to learn and create with technology and become empowered to take on college, careers, and most importantly, the challenges of New York City’s future.
For the FY15 school year, City Council Speaker Mark-Viverito has awarded $275,000 to Mouse. Mouse has also received support from the following City Council Members: Chin, Constantinedes, Dickens, Garodnick, Koo, Mendez, Palma, Rose, Rosenthal, and Richards.
The Digital Inclusion and Literacy Initiative was created by Council Member Vacca to address the disparities in access to the internet and increase digital literacy across the City. We extend our thanks to Council Members Kallos, Rose and Rosenthal who have each appropriated $14,705 to Mouse through this Initiative.
We especially want to recognize Council Members who have supported Mouse for many years and thank those who are supporting us for the first time, including Council Members Chin, Constantinedes, Kallos, Richards and Rosenthal.
We are deeply grateful to the New York City Council for its longtime support of Mouse since 2000, resulting in more than $2.5 million to Mouse. During this time, Mouse has engaged thousands youth across the city with unique opportunities in STEM learning, involving 3D printing, game design, green tech and designing technologies for social good.
Thank you NYC Council Speaker Mark-Viverito and the Council Members for helping Mouse to prepare and inspire the future technology leaders in New York City!
