Mouse Corps Members Deepen Design and Technology Skills Through Summer Apprenticeships!
Our Mouse Corps members continued to further their design skills with hands-on summer apprenticeships in the fields of design, IT technologies, engineering, media production, education, and more!
This year, 15 Mouse Corps students participated in apprenticeships at 8 different organizations during which they accumulated more than 1600 hours of professional development experience!
Mouse Corps members participated in apprenticeships this summer at AppNexus, Educational Development Center (EDC), NYC's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT), ROKO Labs, StoreFront Science, Sullivan & Cromwell, GadgITERATION, and WNET
Throughout their apprenticeships Mouse Corps students work to expand their technological and professional development alongside their technology mentor, an individual who provides support and guidance throughout the apprenticeship as well as after its completion.
Carlos, a Mouse Corps member who had a summer apprenticeship with Sullivan and Cromwell describes his experience, “The people at Sullivan and Cromwell were all the most amazing people I've met and they all helped me so much. Even though I went into this apprenticeship already thinking I wanted to get into law, this apprenticeship actually strengthened that but also expanded the possibilities that I see for my future.”
Each of the summer apprenticeships explored STEM through a variety of different fields. Mouse Corps members Sarah, Jose, and Omar participated in apprenticeships at StoreFront Science in which they led hands-on, science based summer camps for elementary school aged children. Each week explored a different science topic, including chemistry, physics and even owl pellet dissection.
Julian, a 11th grade Mouse Corps member, participated in an apprenticeship with DoITT (NYC's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications), where he worked on creating presentations and managed data for the city’s public wireless department.
Winston, a Mouse Corps student, participated in a summer apprenticeship with WNET as a member of the production team. “Being at WNET made me a much better leader. I loved my time here, and I will definitely miss the people I met.”
Avishek and Matthew, two Mouse Corps students who both completed apprenticeships with AppNexus, worked in different departments within the same organization. Avishek worked within the company’s service desk on networking projects while Matthew focused on software in the engineering department.
We are incredibly proud of our Mouse Corps students and thankful to all the amazing Apprenticeship mentors for sharing their experience and insights with our students.
