NYC Mouse Students and Educators at Maker Faire and Coordinator-Con!
Mouse educators and students welcomed the new school year with two incredible events centered around STEM and education, World Maker Faire and Mouse’s annual Coordinator-Con!
On September 26th, Mouse Squad students, Design League members, educators and staff attended the 5th Annual World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science.
Mouse students and educators from five Mouse schools across NYC spent the day exploring more than 200 different maker projects showcased at Maker Faire. Mouse Design League members presented their maker projects, assistive and adaptive technologies for individuals with cerebral palsy, in the Young Makers Tent.
On October 18th, Mouse Coordinators joined Mouse staff at Teach For America for the Mouse’s 11th annual educator's conference, Coordinator-Con. At this year’s Coordinator-Con, new and returning Mouse educators came together for all day professional development and networking.
Educators participated in several hands-on workshops throughout the day. In our Green Tech workshop, Coordinators learned about renewable energy and built their own turbines, while educators in our web making workshop raced to assemble puzzles of code and HTML.
During the closing session, Coordinators divided into “unconference” groups around specific topics, including advice for new coordinators, Squads with special needs students, and additional topics on best ways to empower their students.
We’re incredibly thankful for our network of awesome educators and students across New York City and look forward to even more exciting during this school year.
