Tri-State Ford Awards $132K Grant to Support Mouse's Innovative Sewable Tech Course

NEW YORK, March 13th, 2018 – Tri-State Ford, in partnership with CBS EcoMedia, has awarded a $132K grant to bring Sewable Tech learning content to youth across the Tri-State area. Sewable Tech is one of many creative learning courses provided by Mouse, a youth development nonprofit that empowers all students to create with technology and make meaningful change in our world.

For more than a century, Ford has been committed to improving the world. We believe that in order to develop innovative products and technologies, we need a workforce skilled in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

The Mouse Sewable Tech Course combines STEM learning with artistic expression and crafting. Research shows that learning circuitry through this STEAM lens engages a wider audience than traditional circuit design and improves learner outcomes. In this course, students learn to embed circuitry directly into fabric and create soft circuits, fabric switches, and sewable sensors.

This grant will provide funding to include Sewable Tech projects at monthly Mouse Maker Events, as well as the professional development and materials needed to bring this new learning content to more than 400 Mouse students across the Tri-State area.

“We deeply appreciate this second generous grant from Tri-State Ford,” said Daniel Rabuzzi, Executive Director, Mouse. “With their continued support, Mouse is bringing Sewable Tech to hundreds more young people, sparking their interest in art and technology, and inspiring them to create meaningful change in their schools and communities.”
