February Mouse Microproject Winners

Last month’s Microproject asked you all to bring the custom of card giving into the 21st century by making your own interactive greeting card in Scratch. The submissions we received celebrated birthdays, graduations, and nearly every holiday found on a school calendar! We enjoyed seeing the sweet, funny messages you all inscribed for your loved ones and even though we couldn’t understand all of the inside jokes, we could tell a lot of thought and love went into each card. Thanks for submitting so many great cards!

Grand Prize

Our Grand Prize winner was made by gryphonl1029 at JHS157 Stephen A. Halsey in Queens, New York! Gryphonl1029 decided to make a card that could work for basically any celebration! Whether you’re going to a birthday party or thanking a friend for a thoughtful gift, this interactive card will delight its recipient with its many jovial messages that dance across the screen and change color to match the color schemes of Valentine’s and Halloween. We also appreciated the detailed write-up that gryphonl1029 submitted to describe the creation process. Great work, gryphonl1029!

1st Runner Up

Our 1st Runner up was made by 321ethanl at P.S. 139 in Queens, NY! 321ethanl’s clever design of the interactive card makes it seem as though the card and donut show up in the card once the user clicks on them when both are really just waiting for a certain amount of time to pass before they make their appearances. We loved how 321ethanl wasn’t afraid to fail forward and try to move past the instructions provided in the Scratch tutorial to make something more intricate and technical. Excellent work, 21ethanl

2nd Runner Up

Our 2nd Runner up is e.garcia from Cedar Middle School in Hesperia, California! This entry joins a growing list of impressive entries this school has submitted to the Microproject competitions this year. E.garcia made one of the most interactive submissions we received, as you can hit any of the four directional keys to give a gift to one of the two characters that are included. All of the responses you can get from the card are also easy to discover and test out for yourself thanks to the helpful directions e.garcia added to the instructions for  the project. Amazing job, e.garcia!

Our honorable mentions go out this month to:

Our Grand Prize winner will receive a $50 Adafruit Gift Certificate for their school, and our 1st and 2nd Runners up will each win a prize of their choice from our new prize chest!

Another Microproject is already up and waiting for your new submissions! This month your challenge is to 3D model something that could be shot into space!
