MHTA Announces Finalists For the Tekne Awards

Minnesota High Tech Association names finalists for the 18thannual Tekne Awards, to be held Nov. 15 at the Minneapolis Convention Center
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 27, 2017 – Organizations across Minnesota continue to drive innovation, bringing the state to the forefront of the technology industry. To honor leading-edge innovation and the technological advancement of local companies, the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) last night announced 39 finalists for its annual Tekne Awards, which will be held on Nov. 15 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
MHTA has been celebrating Minnesota’s technology and science industries for 18 years. This year, MHTA recognizes 39 finalists across 13 categories, including cyber security, health care and more. The finalists have gained recognition based on their organizations, products and contributions in fueling the state’s science and technological growth.
“Minnesota-based companies have pioneered innovation in the state and across the globe for decades,” said Margaret Anderson Kelliher, president and CEO of MHTA. “We’re looking forward to honoring these organizations at the 2017 Tekne Awards event and highlighting Minnesota’s incredible science and technology community.”
The 18th annual Tekne Awards program will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a VIP registration and reception, followed by general registration at 5 p.m. and dinner at 5:45 p.m. The awards ceremony will commence at 7 p.m., with a post-event reception at 8:30 p.m.

Categories and finalists for the 2017 Tekne Awards are:
ANALYTICS AWARD
Honors innovative applications for turning data-driven insights into improved business processes or outcomes. Examples include digital marketing, customer experience mapping, predictive innovation, identifying new revenue opportunities and retail applications. Finalists are: Calabrio (Minneapolis), EnergyPrint (St. Paul) and Unisys (St. Paul).
BUILDING DESIGN INFRASTRUCTURE AWARD
Honors the integration of technology in the design, construction and operation of the built environment. Entries should demonstrate innovation and leadership in one or more areas of intelligent building infrastructure, sustainable energy efficiency and productive workplace design. Finalists are: 75F (Burnsville), and Energy Management Collaborative (EMC) (Plymouth) and Perkins+Will (Minneapolis).
COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY AWARD
Celebrates a product or service with demonstrated impact on interactive forms of communication including the internet, mobile technologies, social media and other telecommunications-based technologies or applications. Finalists are: Lumi (Minneapolis), Metropolitan Airports Commission (Minneapolis) and PeopleNet (Minnetonka).
COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD
Recognizes the development or implementation of technology that serves an unmet community need. Entries should demonstrate significant improvement or modernization through a product, service or innovation that assists underserved populations, enhance quality of life, health or safety, or promotes an innovative job creation strategy. Finalists are: Comcast Corporation (St. Paul), GogyUp (Minneapolis) and Minnesota IT Services (St. Paul).
CYBER SECURITY AWARD
Recognizes innovative products or services that secure networks, computers, or systems from unintended or unauthorized access. These include but are not limited to identity management products or services, trusted authentication, disaster recovery, secure data storage, computer forensics, and verification processes. Finalists are: Arcserve LLC (Eden Prairie), Entrust Datacard (Shakopee) and Secured2 Corporation (Minneapolis).
HEALTHCARE AWARD
Honors innovative development or deployment of medical devices, diagnostics or equipment, data management, communication systems integration, disease treatment, or pharmaceuticals that measurably improve patient care delivery, reduce recovery times or improve patient health. Finalists are: NovuHealth (Minneapolis), OneOme (Minneapolis) and Photonic Pharma LLC(Minneapolis).
INDUSTRY IMPACT AWARD
Recognizes the development or implementation of technology with impact across a specific sector or industry. Entries should demonstrate significant improvement or modernization in processes or products and can include better customer/client experience, engagement or ecommerce. Finalists are: Activated Research Company (Eden Prairie), Ecolab (St. Paul) and Jamf(Minneapolis).
INTERNET OF THINGS AWARD
Honors the development of Internet of Things including use of sensors and wearable solutions that add increased efficiency or enhanced value to clients or customers. Finalists are: MultiTech Systems (Mounds View), Select Comfort (Minneapolis) and Sentera (Minneapolis).
SOFTWARE (ESTABLISHED) AWARD
Honors innovation in software development or applications that enhance productivity and efficiency for business or consumer use. Finalists are: ABILITY Network (Minneapolis), Perforce Software (Minneapolis) and Unisys (St. Paul).
SOFTWARE (SMALL & GROWING) AWARD
Honors innovation in software development or applications that enhance productivity and efficiency for business or consumer use. Finalists are: SafeNet Consulting (Minnetonka), Secure Digital Solutions (St. Louis Park) and Sentera (Minneapolis).
STARTUP AWARD
Honors an early-stage Minnesota technology company with commercialized products that demonstrates significant potential, creativity and a promising future. Finalists are: Prevent Biometrics (Edina), StemoniX (Eden Prairie) and The Big Know(Minneapolis).
STEM EDUCATION AWARD
Recognizes innovative curriculum and programs that promote STEM (Science Technology Education Math) in an E-12 Minnesota classroom or community. Finalists are: Code Savvy (St. Louis Park), High Tech Kids (Minneapolis) and Mouse (New York).
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Honors innovative approaches to training workers in transition or youth with technology skills and successfully matching them to jobs that meet the needs of Minnesota companies. Finalists are: Keyot (Oakdale), Rêve Academy (Minneapolis) and Software for Good (Minneapolis).
