Mouse Elects Dawn Barber, NYC Technology Leader, to its Board of Directors

NEW YORK, January 24, 2012 – Mouse, a national nonprofit organization providing technology programs that engage, empower and inspire underserved youth, has elected Dawn Barber to its Board of Directors.

Barber is a recognized leader within the rapidly growing technology community in New York City. She is a co-founder of the NY Tech Meetup, an organization with more than 21,000 members representing the most innovative companies in the city who come together to demonstrate new ideas and share leading edge thinking on technology topics.

“Mouse is building the next generation of talent for the New York City tech community and beyond,” commented Barber. “I am looking forward to introducing Mouse students to technology innovators across the city and building partnerships that will support the growth of Mouse and its significant impact on many more students.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dawn to our Board of Directors,” stated Brian J. Miller, General Counsel, EducationDynamics and Chairman, Mouse. “Dawn is deeply involved and committed to the New York City tech community, whose members serve as important role models for many of our Mouse students as they deepen their passion for technology and gain real life experiences in the professional world.”

Barber has extensive experience in planning and organizing groups and events in the New York technology community. From 1998 to 2001, she served as Director, New York New Media Association (NYNMA), then the largest association of professionals using innovative technologies in the New York area and has since produced many other technology events in New York City.

Barber is dedicated to increasing the presence of women in technology. She is a Fellow for the New York-based Pipeline Fund, which aims to increase the number of women who become angel investors and social entrepreneurs. Barber also serves on the NYC Advisory Board of Astia, dedicated to building women leaders and accelerating the funding and growth of high potential, high-growth start ups led by women.

Barber is a New York Trustee of The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences, serves on the Board of InSITE, and is Apprenticeship Director for the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.
