Mouse Students Present at Maker Faire, the Largest Showcase of Innovation and Invention
WHAT: Mouse, a national youth development organization, will officially kick off the new school year at Maker Faire, “the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth.” Mouse students from schools across New York City will participate in this event that brings together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers and those celebrating the “maker” culture.
Mouse empowers students to learn, lead and create with technology and inspires them to become innovators and inventors. Mouse provides unique opportunities for students to become actively involved in the “maker” movement including design workshops, mentoring and developing in-depth technology projects that address social needs.
Mouse students will join other members of the Hive Learning Network NYC in the Young Makers Tent and present their award-winning projects designed to address the technology needs of individuals with cerebral palsy. These projects include Art Squared, an assistive remote controlled two dimensional painter tool, Mixing Buddy, a hacked cooking mixer with an accessible on-off switch, Joy-Pix, a joy-stick controlled adapted camera mount and Extend-a-Arm, an extendable mechanical grabber for people using wheelchairs and crutches.
Mouse students will also participate in a multimedia scavenger hunt, during which they will search for specific exhibits and use Google Nexus Tablets to photograph, record and capture information about the new technologies they have discovered.
WHEN: Saturday, September 21st 10:00am-3:00pm (the event is open until 7:00pm)
WHERE: Young Makers Tent, New York Hall of Science

About MAKER FAIRE: Created by the editors of MAKE magazine, Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in May 2013 celebrated its eighth annual show with some 900 makers and 120,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in just four years and expects over 600 makers and 70,000 attendees this September. Detroit, Kansas City, Newcastle (UK), Rome, and Tokyo are the home of "featured" 2013 Maker Faires (200+ makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world.
