Technology Leader And Youth Advocate Omari Edwards Joins Mouse Board Of Directors
NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mouse, a national youth development nonprofit that empowers students to use technology as a force for good, announced today that Omari Edwards, Software Architect and Founder at Beak, has joined its Board of Directors.
"We are thrilled to welcome Omari to our Board," said Amy Kadomatsu, Chair, Mouse Board of Directors. "Omari is deeply passionate about providing opportunities to underserved youth to build the skills and confidence to become leaders in STEM, and is already an inspiring role model and mentor to our students at Mouse."
Mr. Edwards has extensive experience in technology, systems engineering, and software development. In 2014, he founded Beakit.com, an online platform that helps companies track, analyze, and terminate the digital assets they share online. He also recently joined Serval Ventures, a data-focused tech accelerator for early stage startup ventures, as Chief Technology Officer.
Previously, Mr. Edwards had roles spanning the software development lifecycle, including building defense systems at Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems, and financial trading platforms at Pipeline Financial and FX Alliance.
"Throughout my software career, I have witnessed firsthand the disproportionate underrepresentation of minorities in STEM," said Mr. Edwards. "I believe in Mouse as its mission aligns with mine. Mouse has a proven track record of providing students that lack confidence in STEM the ability to overcome and excel."
"With the great team at Mouse, I believe we can level the playing field for the next generation of underrepresented youth and in turn provide them the chance to grow to become the next great role models and leaders in STEM."
In addition to Mouse, Mr. Edwards volunteers at other STEM organizations, including Google CS Edge and West Orange African Heritage Organization. He is a technology advisor to several startups and steering committee member of various hackathons.
Mr. Edwards has a Master's Degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Morehouse College. In his spare time, he loves spending time with his wife and two children.
