MSCA Recognizes Mouse Squad Youth, Educators and STEM Leaders at Summit

Mouse Squad of California (MSCA) recently held its Annual Educator Summit, Student Showcase, and STEM Recognition event, which was hosted by SAP Labs Inc. in Palo Alto. With more than 150 students, educators, partners and supporters in attendance, MSCA celebrated its ninth year as a leading provider of technology and leadership programs for California youth.

Dr. Cynthia Temesi, Education Advisor for Cisco, North America, gave an inspiring keynote on the future of STEM education, which was followed by a panel discussion featuring elementary, middle and high school students, a parent and an instructor sharing the positive impact of participating in Mouse Squad. Students from schools across the state demonstrated their Mouse Squad projects and expertise at the Student Showcase.

MSCA is also pleased to highlight the following Mouse Squad youth for their outstanding leadership and accomplishments:

Karla, a sophomore at Turlock High School, California was awarded the Aspirations in Computing Award from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) for her skills and interest in IT, solid leadership ability, good academics and plans for post-secondary education. “Winning this award was something I couldn’t have even imagined," stated Karla. "Mouse Squad ignited my passion for technology.”

Javier, an 8th grader at Crozier Middle School in Los Angeles, has been recognized by MSCA for his outstanding participation. His teachers have noted his impressive growth both academically and socially since joining Mouse Squad. Javier says he is now ready to move towards a career in technology. “Mouse Squad has accelerated my knowledge in technology and I have become a team player," Javier said. "I am helping other students and teachers with their technical problems and have made a lot of new friends.”

Allison, a graduate of Leigh High School in San Jose, is studying Engineering at Harvey Mudd College. She was also awarded the Aspirations in Computing Award from NCWIT after interning in the IT Department at Xilinx. Allison says that being part of Mouse Squad inspired her on a path towards a career in the STEM. “Mouse Squad increased my interest in technology and in attending Harvey Mudd College as an engineering major, a field I hope will allow my ideas and innovations to improve the world,” stated Allison.

Congratulations to Mouse Squad of California. We look forward to continuing to grow our presence in California as you embark on your 10th year!
