UNLOCKED: Conquer CS and Game Development with Scratch Creative Computing 2!

Introducing Scratch Creative Computing 2, a computer science and game programming course now available on Mouse Create. Code a game while learning programming using the powerful and flexible platform Scratch.

This course is a continuation of the learning completed in the Scratch Creative Computing Course, recommended for learners grade 6 and above. We recommend it for those with some Scratch experience looking to deepen their understanding, and ultimately create a game that not only entertains but also has something to say.

Adapted from Harvard Curriculum...

The projects in Scratch Creative Computing 1 and 2 are adapted, edited and expanded on from the curriculum released under a Creative Commons license by the ScratchEd team at the Harvard Graduate School of Education to promote further student engagement. The original curriculum can be found at the Harvard Graduate School of Education Creative Computing website if you choose to use it as an additional resource.

...but Mouse-ify-ed

Collaboration: We took this source material and applied our Mouse Learning Tenants when adapting it to our platform. Our version of this curriculum ensures that the earning is playful, active and social, where students are encouraged to work in pairs as much as possible. We believe in collaboration and in the value of a peer to one troubleshoot one’s code.

Create an Impact Game: We also added a new final challenge to the original curriculum where students embed social values into their game. Learners will create an Impact Game, or Serious Game, which is a game that is fun and also tries to make an impact on the world in some way. Some impact games raise awareness about important issues, tell a powerful story or change their players.

Compete for Prizes

Use this course to create a game about certain topics and you can submit it to the National Games for Change Student Challenge. In 2020 Games for Change has opened up their game design competition to students nationally.

To submit a game for the competition you must design a game about an official Games for Change Student topic. These topics change every year, learn more here.

A Wide Knowledge Base

Mouse Create features many other courses that make an excellent complement to Scratch Creative Computing 2. Game artists can improve their skill with our Intro to Design course. Designers can increase the impact of their games by studying Design with Purpose.

Scratch Creative Computing focuses on building computer science literacy through game programming and compliments the Serious Games course, which goes deeper into the art of game design and the science of connecting important issues to game mechanics. Learn more about our Mouse Courses.
